Pre-Industrial Revolution:
LIFESTYLE
Life before the Industrial Revolution can be described as time filled to the brim with labour. Men and women alike were working, mostly in homes, with the help of basic hand-tools and labour-powered machines. With everyone working for his or her own, lifestyles of the time were far from lavish.
In the time of Sovereign Hill, people leaving home-countries for the early Ballarat Gold-Rush, had to endure the worst of living conditions; houses with no windows, constant pungent smells, instability, etc.
Needless to say, life for workers during the Industrial Revolution was hard.
Society was divided, and people were isolated by their social ranking. Nobody could do anything outside of their class, so while the rich spent their money, the poor grovelled for it. It was a rough way of life.
